Barrecore – why you will fall in love with the barre…
There are so many workout classesthese days, quite frankly it can be pretty overwhelming where to begin, but I wanted to share with you my experiences, explain some of the amazing benefits of a BARRE workout and give you my top tips for getting the most out of your class! Ok… so yes I might be slightly bias as I am instructor for Barrecore but before I trained to teach others I was a client myself and fell in love with the barre method. If your looking for a new, exciting workout that will tone and strengthen your whole body, then give Barrecore a try… and with barre classes becoming increasingly popular your bound to find another newbie in the class!
A mix of ballet, yoga and pilates, using high repetitions of tiny isometric movements to get the heart rate pumping and burn fat, coupled with static stretches to lengthen muscles, improve posture and eventually reshape the body. This is a seriously intense workout that is able to tone those seemingly un-toneable areas so I guarantee you will feel amazing afterwards!

- LEAVE YOUR EXCEPTIONS OUTSIDE THE DOOR
When you walk into the studio, think of it as a safe space where you can be free to relax and take time to exercise not only your body, but your mind. Try and leave what has happened before class outside, so for one hour you can connect to your body and leave any stressful thoughts behind.
- BARRE IS FOR EVERYONE
The great thing about Barre is that it’s a low impact workout that uses your own body weight as resistance to work your muscles to their maximum and then stretch them out to create a longer, leaner physique. As a result, it suits all levels of fitness and abilities and positions can be modified to suit anyone working with injuries.
- FIND YOUR HAPPINESS
Barre is a fun workout with a friendly atmosphere; and when we exercise we release endorphins which gives the body a natural boost of happiness. You really can walk into a class with the weight of the world on your shoulders and leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on anything… trust me it works!!
- TRY NOT TO COMPETE
Clients often have an expectation that if they didn’t achieve more than the last time they worked-out, they have somehow failed. Making it to class in the first place is a fantastic achievement and lets face it some days it’s more of a struggle than others… BUT there is no such thing as a perfect workout, and yes this can be frustrating, so just tell yourself “the next time will be better”… and remember the person next to you at the barre with their leg three inches higher than yours is probably facing some of the same personal barriers as you (all whilst balancing on one leg!!)
- FIND A PLUS ONE
Never underestimate the power of a good friend to make you laugh (although probably after the class over a coffee rather than mid plank). It is proven that we push ourselves a little further in class with the help of a friend to motivate us… and maybe even add some friendly competition. And don’t worry if you haven’t found a friend to bring along, you will be in a room of like minded people so this could be an opportunity to make new friends who also prefer the ‘barre’ to the ‘bar’ on a Friday night!
- NOT JUST FOR WOMEN
Founder of Barrecore Niki Rein says “ballet exercises at the barre are exceptionally good for building the core and lower body strength that men lack” so this hardcore class is perfect for men looking to build muscle strength as well.
